One of the most important aspects of taking care of a pregnant lady is eating right, eating healthy. If you don’t consume the right nutrients at the right time, there is no way you can stay healthy during this vulnerable point in your life. After all, both the mother and the unborn child need sufficient nutrients for proper growth.

While eating healthy, incorporate several colorful veggies and whole grains into your diet. Make sure that you or the pregnant lady in question is eating food that is rich in calcium and low in fat (saturated). Without a healthy and balanced diet, how will you take care of yourself or even your child?

Stay Hydrated:

If eating healthy is perhaps the most important aspect of pregnancy, remember that staying hydrated is probably the second most vital thing. Every individual needs water to survive, but when do we say, ‘stay hydrated?’ – on a really hot summer morning? Or maybe when you are not well?

These are normal scenarios. A pregnant woman needs more water than any ordinary person. If a normal person needs 5 cups of water a day, a pregnant lady will easily need 8 to 9 cups of water daily. As a result, staying hydrated is essential, and you cannot be careless about this if you want the pregnancy to be healthy.

Avoid Specific Food Items:

Just like you must incorporate colorful veggies and whole grains into your diet, there are certain food items that you need to avoid. These can impact any pregnant woman’s health in various ways – from something major like making the pregnancy unhealthy to something minor like a bout of acne

Now, as a pregnant lady, the food items one must avoid are as follows,

  • Rare and raw meats,
  • Raw eggs, sushi, liver,
  • Soft cheese (brie, feta),
  • Unpasteurized milk.

Did you know unpasteurized and raw animal products are also responsible for causing something dangerous like food poisoning? Even items like certain types of fish can turn out to be a harmful choice for pregnancy since these contain mercury.

Say No To Alcohol:

This one’s pretty much known to everyone. Although drinking liquid vitamins can appear to be a healthy decision, alcohol doesn’t happen to be one of those alcoholic beverages. In fact, saying no alcohol does not just extend to the time during which someone is pregnant, it also extends to the time when the same person is also breastfeeding.

When you drink alcohol during pregnancy or even while you are breastfeeding, it might put your baby at risk of suffering from FASD or fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. FASD is responsible for causing abnormalities in facial features, behavioral issues, and even learning disabilities. Thus, it’s best to stay away from alcohol if you might get pregnant.

No Smoking:

The fact that smoking is injurious to health is a universally known and accepted fact. Even chain smokers will tell you that cigarettes are killing them, probably why it is known as one of the deadliest addictions out there. So pregnant or not, the best thing that you can do to your body is not to smoke, and if you are a smoker, then quit.

Now smoking is the unhealthiest thing for a pregnant lady. There are so many deadly outcomes of smoking during pregnancy, like premature birth, SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), miscarriage, and several other deadly outcomes. Thus, it’s best for your baby’s future that you choose not to smoke during your pregnancy.

Sleep A Little:

Most people would want to sleep for nine hours a day, but unfortunately, they can’t. But that doesn’t hold true for a pregnant lady. Anyone who is pregnant is carrying another human being inside their body – the thought itself is exhausting, imagine going ahead with it anyway. In that case, feeling tired is a common issue that you might face during pregnancy.

You need sleep to function every day. A pregnant woman needs more sleep for even wobbling around the house. Remember, her body needs sleep for both herself and her unborn child. Every pregnant woman needs ample sleep, preferably anything between seven to nine hours. Moreover, make sure that you are sleeping on the left side for improving blood flow.

And It’s A Wrap!
